In a deeply disturbing incident, the Woodlawn Celestial Gardens, a cemetery in Compton, has fallen victim to heartless thieves who destroyed headstones and stole metal plaques from multiple graves. Celestina Bishop, the owner of the cemetery, is left in disbelief and is now seeking answers regarding the senseless act of vandalism that occurred overnight.

Speaking with CBS Los Angeles, Celestina, who fully funds and tends to the cemetery on her own, expressed her shock and dismay at the extent of the destruction. The thieves reportedly cut through the wired gate, targeting bronze plaques and headstones, likely with the intention of selling the metal to recyclers.

"This is not right. Woodlawn, we want love and peace," Celestina pleaded. "This is not peaceful, this is not loving." The violation of a sacred resting place has left the community shaken, especially considering Woodlawn is the final resting place for over 900 veterans dating back to 1812, as well as the city's early settlers.

The thieves' disregard for the historical and emotional significance of the cemetery has added another layer of distress for Celestina, who is now left to pick up the pieces and repair the damage inflicted on a place meant for eternal rest. As the community grapples with this act of vandalism, questions arise about the motive behind such a heartless crime and the impact it has on the sanctity of a space meant for reflection, remembrance, and peace.
