NBA YoungBoy Accused of Violating House Arrest Terms by Using Drugs

Federal prosecutors are accusing rapper NBA YoungBoy, also known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again, of violating the terms of his house arrest by using unspecified drugs. In a recent filing, prosecutors asked a Louisiana federal judge to set a hearing to address the rapper's "noncompliant behavior" while he awaits a July trial on federal gun charges.

YoungBoy, who was indicted by Louisiana federal prosecutors in March 2021 on charges of "felon in possession of a firearm," allegedly violated a rule forbidding him from "using or unlawfully possessing a narcotic drug or other controlled substance" while under house arrest. Prosecutors claim that YoungBoy informed his supervising officer that he has "no intentions to discontinue using the substance that resulted in the violation."

The filing did not specify the drug YoungBoy is accused of using. His attorneys have not yet commented on the allegation but are expected to file a formal response in the coming days.

The rapper's legal troubles stem from a September 2020 incident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was allegedly found with two guns. YoungBoy, who was previously convicted in 2017 of aggravated assault with a firearm, faces charges related to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

While awaiting trial, YoungBoy has been confined to his Salt Lake City mansion for over two years. In October, his attorneys argued that the prolonged social isolation was harming his mental health and requested the judge to loosen restrictions, including allowing him to travel to a recording studio to create new music. However, this request was mostly denied in November.

YoungBoy's trial is scheduled to begin on July 15 and is expected to last for two weeks. Despite being acquitted of similar charges brought by California federal prosecutors in July 2022, he still faces a trial in Louisiana over the original indictment.
